MahJoin LLC (“we,” “our,” or “MahJoin”) operates the MahJoin mobile application and related services. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our app.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information necessary to provide the MahJoin service:
- Account information: Email address and/or phone number (for sign-in and account recovery). We use Firebase Authentication; verification codes are sent via email or SMS.
- Profile information: Name, optional bio, and username. Some of this information is required to join or create clubs.
- Location: Your device location is used to find mahjong events and games near you (e.g., within a chosen radius). Location is not stored indefinitely for discovery; it is used for search and to display your position relative to events.
- Identity verification: If you use identity verification, we may process photos (e.g., of you or an ID document) to help build trust in the community. Image processing is used for verification purposes and is handled in accordance with our security practices.
- Chat and club content: Messages and content you send in direct messages, group chats, or club discussions are stored to provide the service.
- Event and game data: Information you provide when creating or joining events (e.g., address, time, rules, skill level) and game statistics (e.g., hands, scores) that you or hosts record.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the MahJoin app (event discovery, clubs, chat, statistics).
- Authenticate you and manage your account.
- Process and support subscriptions (e.g., via RevenueCat and the Apple App Store / Google Play). Payment is handled by the store; we do not store your full payment card details.
- Send you service-related communications (e.g., verification codes, important updates).
- Enforce our Terms of Service and protect the safety and integrity of our service.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on our backend and with trusted service providers. We use encryption (e.g., AES-256-GCM) for sensitive personal data at rest where applicable. Authentication is handled by Firebase. We use industry-standard practices to protect your information.
4. Subscriptions and Third-Party Services
Subscriptions are managed through RevenueCat and the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment and billing are handled by those platforms; their privacy policies apply to those transactions. We receive information about your subscription status to unlock features (e.g., clubs, chat) in the app.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account and associated data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your data in accordance with our data deletion process (e.g., account and related club/event/chat data as described in our systems).
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (e.g., via a data export feature in the app or by contacting us).
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data. You can do this through the app (e.g., account deletion) or by contacting us.
- Correction: Update your profile and account information in the app.

7. Children
MahJoin is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
