1. Information We Collect

We collect information necessary to provide the MahJoin service:

• Account information: Email address and/or phone number for sign-in and account recovery. We use Firebase Authentication; verification codes are sent via email or SMS.
• Profile information: Name, optional bio, and username. Some of this information is required to join or create clubs.
• Precise location: With your permission, your device location is used to find mahjong events and games near you. Your coordinates are transmitted to our servers to perform proximity searches and display your position relative to events.
• Date of birth / age: We collect your date of birth or an age affirmation to confirm you meet our minimum age requirement of 13.
• Photos and media you upload: Profile photos, event thumbnails, and club media you upload are stored to provide the service.
• Chat and club content: Messages and content you send in direct messages, group chats, or club discussions are stored to provide the service.
• Event and game data: Information you provide when creating or joining events and game statistics that you or hosts record.
• Usage and device data: Limited technical data needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the MahJoin app, including event discovery, clubs, chat, and statistics.
• Authenticate you and manage your account.
• Process and support subscriptions via RevenueCat and the Apple App Store or Google Play.
• Send service-related communications such as verification codes and important updates.
• Enforce our Terms of Service and protect the safety and integrity of our service.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on our backend and with trusted service providers. We use encryption for sensitive personal data at rest where applicable. Authentication is handled by Firebase. We use industry-standard practices to protect your information.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on trusted third-party providers to operate the Service. These providers process data on our behalf, and their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies:

• Google Firebase: Authentication, account management, and uploaded media storage.
• MongoDB / MongoDB Atlas: Primary application database for account, event, club, chat, and game data.
• Google reCAPTCHA Enterprise: Protection for sign-in and sensitive actions against automated abuse.
• Google Maps / Geocoding APIs: Address and coordinate conversion for event discovery and mapping.
• RevenueCat: Subscription entitlement management and verification.
• Apple App Store / Google Play: Subscription billing and payment.
• Cloud hosting providers: Backend server infrastructure.

5. Subscriptions

Subscriptions are managed through RevenueCat and the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment and billing are handled by those platforms; their privacy policies apply to those transactions. We receive information about your subscription status to unlock features in the app.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and associated data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your data in accordance with our data deletion process. Account deletion also removes media you uploaded from our cloud storage, and removes or anonymizes related club, event, and chat data.

7. User-Generated Content, Safety, and Moderation

MahJoin lets users post content such as profiles, messages, club discussions, and event details. To keep the community safe, we provide in-app tools to report objectionable content or users and to block other users.

We review reports and may remove content, warn, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate our Terms of Service or community guidelines. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
• Correction: Update your profile and account information in the app.

9. Children

MahJoin is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the Last updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
